Hi, my name is Foxy. I am a mature but feisty gal who really grows to love her people. I was adopted out by New Hope many years ago, but I was abandoned by my previous family when they moved away. I ended up in a local shelter and thankfully I made my way back to New Hope.
I am a special girl because I am deaf. This does not slow me down at all, and my Foster Mom (who had never worked with deaf dogs before) realized that I am not difficult to communicate with, and I learn quickly. A couple of benefits to deaf dogs: they will hang out with you when you vacuum or mow the lawn, and they don't start barking every time someone comes to the door!
Because I am deaf, sometimes when I am startled I react with a nip. I don't do this because I am mean, but because I get scared. My Foster Mom has learned how to get my attention without startling me (especially when I am sleeping).
When I came back to New Hope a few months ago, I was quite overweight. But my Foster Mom has been helping me watch what I eat and go on daily walks; I have already lost a few pounds and am feeling much better. The family who adopts me should help me continue to work towards and maintain a healthy weight.
I have arthritis so I prefer short walks, and I may need some help getting into vehicles. But I still love to get out and see the world. I take medication to alleviate my arthritis pain.
I am very affectionate once I realize I am with kind people; I love tummy rubs, I LOVE to be brushed, and gentle pets on my face will make me so happy that I might start to drool. Even though I weigh 65ish pounds, I still try to be a lap dog. I get along with all the dogs and cats in my foster home.
I would do best with a loving family who is willing to work with me as I learn the ropes of your home. I am a dog who really enjoys being around my people, and being abandoned so late in my life has been difficult. I am ready to find my real forever family.
