Step 1: Read Adoption Policies and Procedures

  • In order to begin the adoption process, you MUST complete an online adoption application. This should take only ~10 minutes. If you have any problems completing the application, please send an email to pj@coloradoheelers.com.

  • New Hope is a non-profit 501c3 organization. All adoption fees are used to cover vetting and other dog related costs.

  • We are an ALL-VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION. None of our members are paid.

  • We do ask for an adoption donation for when adopting a dog.  A typical adoption donation is $350 for a puppy (6 months and younger); $300 for a dog (older than 6 months); elderly dogs and special needs dogs are case by case.

All of our dogs receive the following vetting:.

  • spay/neuter
  • vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordatella)
  • de-worming
  • heartworm check (if appropriate)
  • microchip

Dogs come with a crate, bed, collar, leash, food, bowls, and vet records. The crate is returned upon completion of the trial adoption.

Step 2: Complete Online Adoption Application

The first step in adopting a New Hope dog is to complete our online adoption application. We pride ourselves in being able to match dogs with families and this will help us help you find the perfect companion.

Step 3: Schedule a Homecheck

We require a home check for each and every adoption. The home check is designed to help us find you a dog that fits your lifestyle. We have found that wonderful adopters live in all types of places: apartments, houses, ranches. The home check is very helpful for first time dog owners or first time cattle dog owners who may not be aware of some of the precautions needed when bringing a dog into their home. Doing a home check allows us to meet you in person and see what your personality is like so that we can make a better placement of a dog. We do adopt out of state, but these may require extra planning and checks so the process often requires addition time.

Step 4: Choose dog(s) to meet

Choose several dogs that you think might fit your lifestyle. We will make recommendations as well. Once you complete an adoption application and speaking with the Adoption Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to speak with the foster home of the dogs that interest you. We also encourage you to come to an adoption event (details on the home page) to see numerous dogs at one time. This will allow you to get a better appreciation for a specific dog's size and relative energy level.
