Meet Captain, a New Hope Cattle Dog Available For Adoption

Captain

 Meet Captain

Captain

Capitan has a sad story - he was dumped at a compound in Oklahoma. While there this poor guy was shot in the neck and shoulder, and lost one of his eyes due to being repeated abused. Some kind ladies rescued him and reached out to New Hope to help find him a fresh start. Captain is now here in Colorado waiting for a new family. He's sweet, playful, social, and wants nothing more than to be loved, snuggled and told what a good boy he is. He's doing a great job learning to navigate the world with only one eye but will occasionally bump into things, or get startled - especially when it's dark. Capitan loves his foster doggie sister and would likely do best in a home with another confident, friendly dog that can help show him the ropes. Captain enjoys walks and absolutely LOVES car rides. He is a smart boy and just wants to please. He's mostly house trained, knows how to sit, shake, and is learning to fetch. He can be a bit of a busybody so his new home will need a fenced yard where he can run and play safely ... oh ... and a nice soft bed with some snuggly blankets to nap on afterwards. Because of his past, Captain will have some specific needs in his new home as well. Most importantly he will need a patient, understanding adopter who can help him navigate situations that may scare him. He is a bit wary of men, seems more comfortable with women, and can react defensively if he feels concerned or threatened. We recommend a home without young children, but think he would be okay with a man who is not his main caretaker but can be kind and patient until he can build up trust. However, once that trust is established the loyalty heelers are know for will come out and he probably won't leave your side. Amazingly, in spite of everything this guy has been through, Captain is a friendly dog with a real heart of gold that deserves a life full of love and will be an absolutely awesome companion for the right adopter. Is that you?
