Meet Sahara, a New Hope Cattle Dog Available For Adoption

Sahara

 Meet Sahara

Sahara

Sahara is a beautiful, loving and energetic girl. She is a typical cattle dog mix – very smart, very busy, curious, handsy, a little stubborn, and goofy. She is a quick learner and is taking well to her training so far. She is still learning boundaries and how to walk calmly on a leash but showing progress every day. She has a VERY strong prey drive and will chase rabbits, squirrels, birds, food on the ground, etc. Sahara responds well to correction (hates the water spray bottle), and usually only needs to be told once or twice what is not ok. She will need ongoing training and consistency as she is smart, busy, and has a lot of energy. She would likely do best in a home with someone who understands female Cattle Dog behavior, knows how to train, and who has time to exercise her regularly and work with her on her training. She loves having access to a back yard and keeps herself busy going in and out as much as possible before taking a good long nap. She is able to relax and just chill while you work or do things around the house. She is not afraid of people or loud noises. She loves to cuddle and be close to you and will be sure she knows where you are at all times. She does fine in her crate, sleeps well through the night (7-8 hours), and only had one accident in the house early on. She shows no food aggression and knows sitting may result in a treat. Sahara does great getting a bath and blow-dry and is getting used to the vacuum and other household items. She likes to chew and destroy her toys and is still learning what is hers/not hers. She is not an excessive barker but will let you know if someone is at the door. She will likely do best as the only dog if exercised properly, or with a younger male dog with her same energy-level/playfulness. Given her strong prey drive, she would not do well with cats or other small animals.
